Event Description:
Celebrating Camp Harlan will commemorate the recent addition of Camp Harlan to the National Register of Historic Places. The camp was a rendezvous point and training site for both the 4th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry and the 25th Iowa Volunteer Infantry in 1861 and 1862.
Featuring the Marengo Civil War Band, a brass and percussion ensemble which play authentic Civil War music; a presentation by Rebecca McCarley, consultant for the Camp Harlan project; and brief film footage of the 1930 dedication of the Camp Harlan memorial marker.
The program is free and open tot he public.
The Harlan-Lincoln House on the Iowa Wesleyan College campus will be open after the event. A snare drum made and used at Camp Harlan is on a display as well as other Civil War artifacts.
