Event Description:
Grinnell College professors and husband-and-wife tandom EUGENE GAUB & NANCY MCFARLAND return to the Sondheim stage for a piano and violin duet. Eugene Gaub Eugene Gaub joined the faculty at Grinnell College in 1995. He is a pianist who also teaches courses in music theory and music history. As a pianist, Eugene Gaub's solo repertoire comprises works by composers ranging from Bach and Scarlatti to György Ligeti and John Adams. He has performed complete cycles of the Beethoven Piano Sonatas, Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, the late piano music of Brahms, and most recently, the piano music of Gabriel Fauré. Nancy McFarland Violinist Nancy McFarland Gaub has had a varied career as soloist, recitalist, chamber player, and orchestral musician on three continents. She is a Lecturer in Music at Grinnell College, where she frequently performs recitals and chamber music, teaches violin and directs the chamber music program. The Grinnell Chamber Ensembles has flourished, and recently performed in Prague at the Dvorak Museum. Ms. Gaub has been the acting concertmaster of the Cedar Rapids Symphony and is currently concertmaster of the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra. In recent years she has performed Brahms' Violin Concerto, "Zigeunerweisen", by Sarasate, and Vivaldi's "Spring", with the OSO.
