Event Description:
Dr. Joel Brown, professor emeritus of music at Iowa Wesleyan College will perform a solo piano recital at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, February 6 at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts in Fairfield, Iowa. Featuring, among other works, will be the beautiful Aeolian Harp Etude by Chopin, the elegant Bb major sonata K. 333 by Mozart and the entire eight movement Kreisleriana by Robert Schumann.

Brown performs frequent recitals and is in demand as an accompanist and adjudicator for piano festivals and contests.  He has been a solo performer with orchestras in Ohio, Georgia and Iowa.  

A native of Rural Retreat, Virginia, Brown earned his BA in music from Lenoir -Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina.  At Indiana University, Bloomington, he received the MM in Piano and his Doctorate of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Music Literature.

Dr. Brown is known in southeast Iowa as a piano teacher and performer of exceptional ability.  One of his adult students recently observed, "He hears more music in music than most people do and has a way of drawing that beautiful music from the instrument."  Robert McConnell, conductor of the Southeast Iowa Symphony and himself a performer said, "Joel Brown is a true artist.  He possesses a sensitivity of expression that few soloists ever achieve in their performances."
