Event Description:
Located along the Underground Railroad, it was obvious some travelers would stay in Henry County.  This class will tell the story of Henry County’s part in the Underground Railroad.  Other topics discussed: African American veterans, Mt. Pleasant’s Lee Town, Iowa Wesleyan’s acceptance of African Americans, integration of the public schools and African American churches, including Second Baptist Church, soon to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.  A power point presentation will be shown and handouts provided.
