The mission of the United Methodist Church is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”
The Hebrew word, shalom, is a word that is understood to mean “peace, hello and goodbye.” However, beyond the basic meanings, the breadth and depth of the possible interpretations of shalom are vast. Shalom may mean “completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, [and] the absence of agitation or discord.” (Strong’s Concordance, 7965)
I am influenced by this as I, on behalf of the staff and church members, welcome you to the the First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant. When I extend this welcome to you, I don’t simply want to greet you to say, ‘hi, hello, and I’m glad you are here!’ I wish for you to feel comfortable and at ease as you navigate this website. I hope that what you discover here will help you to understand that you are welcome at the First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant — a wanted and longed for guest at all worship services and activities of the church. I pray that this welcome will broaden and deepen until you feel you have come home.
